A kid-sized Wegmans grocery store inside The Strong National Museum of Play is getting a "full refresh" this month. The Wegmans Super Kids Market exhibit will be closed April 29 to May 22 for renovations, according to museum spokesman Shane Rhinewald.

The exhibit will get fresh carpeting, paint, shopping carts and play products. New additions will include a cake decorating space in the bakery section and an updated manager's stand with a working intercom system.

The Strong also plans to add three artifact cases exploring the history of "food play."

The Wegmans exhibit is a fan favorite, Rhinewald said, where young visitors get to run one of Rochester's most notable institutions ― as shoppers picking out their favorite foods or as cashiers scanning those goodies at working check-out counters. The exhibit first opened in the late 1990s and has undergone updates several times since.

The museum completed a $75 million, 90,000-square-foot expansion last July. The expansion included a colorful, outdoor play area known as Hasbro Game Park, a 20-foot-high Donkey Kong arcade game, and an interactive video game exhibit.
