Woman stabbed in fight, BBQ grill thrown at RPD vehicle

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Rochester Police Department is investigating a fight that left one woman hospitalized and a police vehicle damaged.

According to RPD, just before 5 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the mid-block of Englert Street for a large fight in the street.  Officers said they encountered a very chaotic scene with at least one person hurt and people still fighting.

RPD stated that the officers were able to de-escalate the scene and safely take two people into custody.

Police said a 23-year-old Rochester woman was found to be stabbed at least one time in the upper body and was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for what they consider to be critical, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Police said during an initial investigation, one person threw a barbecue grill, a large concrete block, and other items at a police vehicle. Police said this caused thousands of dollars in damage to the vehicle.

According to RPD, this investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 911.
