Nixa kicker Jonah Fields goes from afterthought to Missouri record book
NIXA — Jonah Fields has found himself to be an incredible weapon for Nixa football, even though he was never supposed to be the team’s starting kicker, let alone one of the best in the state. “I didn’t really take it seriously at first,” Fields said with a smile. During freshman year, coaches asked every player to hit a kick. Whoever kicked the furthest was made the kicker for the season. Well, Fields won the competition, which started an incredible journey. “I was thrown into it first and we’ve went from there,” Fields said. Nixa football: Inside the Eagles' fifth straight conference championship In Nixa’s 59-14 win over Glendale on Oct. 22, Fields drilled a 54-yard field goal with ease. According to MSHSAA records, Fields’ field goal is tied for eighth-best in state history. This was the longest field goal since 2022, set by former Liberty North and current Mizzou kicker Blake Craig, who hit a 56-yarder. “I’m glad he gave me a second chance,” Fields said. “I got to go out there and prove what I was capable of.” Earlier in the game, Fields missed a chip shot. The angle was tight and made it an uncomfortable kick. Fields'

Inside Nixa football's fifth straight conference championship
SPRINGFIELD — The conference title is the first step in Nixa’s ultimate goal. The Eagles (8-1) defeated Glendale 59-14 to secure the Central Ozark Conference East title for the fifth consecutive season on Thursday, Oct. 22. “That’s obviously a goal of ours when we get started,” coach John Perry said about winning the conference title. “We have great kids and they work hard every single day to get a little better.” Glendale (5-4) jumped ahead first on a 72-yard touchdown catch from Joelle Rover. The star receiver caught a pass from Ryder Spickard near the sideline. He broke a few tackles and was gone for the big score. Nixa turned things around on two key fourth-down calls. The Eagles were stopped at midfield. Instead of punting, the team snapped the ball to Reed Wilson at the up-back position. The fake punt worked beautifully with Wilson breaking multiple tackles down the near sideline. He sprinted into the end zone, tying the game. “I was like, ‘Dang, I might go down and be short,’” Wilson said. “I spun off and there was a gap on the left. I was running into the end zone and dang, I did it. I’ve never had
