Flash Flood Warning for Kan:Cherokee/Crawford Mo: Jasper/Lawrence

JOPLIN METRO AREA (KOAM) — About 10:30 a.m. Thursday heavy rain due to thunderstorms began flooding. About 11 a.m. they upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning .

The National Weather Service states 3 and 4 inches of rain have fallen in a short amount of time. The warning extends to 5 p.m.

About 2 p.m. Carthage Fire Dept responded to the 1000 block of Cedar Ave. A huge tree fell across the road taking down electric service and smashing a car. City workers responded quickly to begin work on removal.

• WHAT ... Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
• WHERE ... Portions of southeast Kansas, including the following counties, Cherokee and Crawford and southwest Missouri, including the following counties, Jasper and Lawrence.
• WHEN ... Until 5 PM Thursday.
• IMPACTS ... Flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

CRASH OCCURRED ON MO-171 & KAFIR ROAD

NARRATIVE : About 10:40 a.m. a vehicle driving along Mo-171 was struck by a falling tree limb. Two other cars went into ditches to avoid crash. One person was transported non-life-threatening injuries.
