No one correctly guessed the identities of the Lone Stranger and Sidekick in this year's Redding Rodeo week contest.

Not to fear: The Asphalt Cowboys caught up with the (mock) bank robbers anyway, the philanthropic organization's spokesman Dave Tappan said after the contest ended at 5 p.m. Friday.

At first, the situation looked dire, Tappan teased. It looked like the desperadoes would escape.

But "much to their misfortune, the Lone Strangers popped into Jack's Grill for one more Ol' Yeller before hittin' the trail," Tappan said, joking, "and to their surprise, there were the Asphalt Cowboys, celebrating another successful pancake breakfast."

Local celebrities who played this year's Lone Strangers will be in the Redding Rodeo Parade on Saturday.

They are former long-time bartender at Jack's Grill, Mike Woodrum, and "our very own Shasta County Sheriff Michael Johnson," Tappan said.

A Redding woman found the loot on the first day of the Asphalt Cowboys' Redding Rodeo week contest.

Chantel Davis of Redding found the Lone Strangers' loot in an envelope taped underneath a bench at Redding Municipal Airport, Tappan announced Tuesday.

Davis won $500 for finding the loot on the first day of the four-day contest, he said.

Original story: Last day to identify Lone Stranger, Sidekick

Friday is the last day of the Asphalt Cowboys' city-wide contest to solve clues for cash prizes.

Two local celebrities disguised as the Lone Stranger and Sidekick rode into Redding on Tuesday and (mock) robbed the Golden Valley Bank on Hemsted Drive.

The Asphalt Cowboys made a valiant effort to catch them by slowly walking after them, shooting their guns (filled with blanks) into the air, but to no avail. The Lone Stranger and Sidekick made their escape in this annual Redding Rodeo week comedy ritual.

Chantel Davis of Redding has already won $500 for finding the loot underneath a bench at the Redding Airport on Tuesday. But the Lone Stranger and Sidekick remain at large, so that game goes on, Asphalt Cowboy Dave Tappan said.

Tappan and the cowboys issued a new clue on Friday (below). Solve the clue to the identities of local personalities playing the Lone Stranger and Sidekick, and to find their loot to win $200 per contest.
