LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) – The Lee County Coroner has confirmed a Mooreville man was found dead along a Lee County highway Friday afternoon. Carolyn Green says Sean Hefferman, 53, was found on the side of Highway 178 in the Skyline community. This was near Grace Memorial Baptist Church.

Second arrest made in Tupelo shooting incident
TUPELO – A west Tupelo man facing multiple weapon and drug charges in connection with an April shooting incident where a pair of cars were damaged. Tupelo police were called to the Burress Circle area (just off North Green Street) on April 16 after bullet holes were discovered in a vehicle. The responding officers noticed that a second vehicle was struck as well by the gunfire. The owners of the vehicles both believed the shooting happened between midnight and 5 a.m. Only the vehicles were hit. No injuries were reported.

Shannon man sentenced to 15 years for 2016 killing
TUPELO – A Shannon man pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter this week in connection with a fatal shooting more than 6 years ago. Xzavious Jamar Johnson, 35, formerly of County Road 54, Shannon, was originally charged with first degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in the February 2016 shooting death of Travonte Young at a south Tupelo apartment complex.

Baldwyn man charged with Prentiss County burglary
BOONEVILLE – A Baldwyn man was arrested by Itawamba County deputies and charged with the burglary of a logging site in southeast Prentiss County. Prentiss County deputy sheriffs received a report in early April of damaged equipment and several stolen items from a logging site off County Road 5481, near Marietta. The investigation led to affidavits being filled against Jacob Wayne Mears, 26, of Hill Chapel Road, Baldwyn, charged with burglary of an automobile and felony malicious mischief.
