The Kentucky High School Athletic Association shook up the high school soccer postseason after it was announced it had posted the wrong brackets . On Nov. 1, the KHSAA let the boys and girls soccer semifinalists know that the semifinal pairings were incorrect. The matchups for the girls semifinals on Tuesday and the boys semifinals on Wednesday have now been updated. Highlands girls soccer and Ryle boys soccer were among the teams affected. Highlands now plays South Oldham at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, while Ryle faces Louisville St. Xavier at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 4. Multiple coaches confirmed to Jason Frakes of the Louisville Courier-Journal that the previously-published brackets did not accurately reflect the semifinal pairings that were announced during the KHSAA draws. Ryle boys soccer head coach Stephen Collins said he didn't learn about the change until nearly 8 p.m. on Sunday, and Monday had largely been spent dealing with logistics as a result. Collins said the Raiders are excited to end a multi-year drought in the semifinals and are just focusing on what they can control. A Kentucky high school football team paid the ultimate sacrifice to show off its school spirit on Thursday, Oct. 29. The Shelby County High School (Shelby, KY) football team opted to forfeit its matchup against Fairdale (KY) to attend the school's volleyball regional final against North Oldham (Goshen, KY). Athletic director and head football coach Powell Miller told high school reporter Jason Frakes of the Louisville Courier-Journal — part of the USA TODAY Network — that the school attempted to move the game to Wednesday or Friday, but decided to forfeit when the game could not be moved. "That’s a big deal for us,” Miller told Frakes. The football game between Shelby County and Fairdale was set to be played at Doss High School (Louisville, KY), but with Doss in action on Friday and Fairdale unable to host due to construction at its stadium, the game had to be forfeited. Unfortunately for the Rockets — which qualified for the regional final for the first time — the match ended in a 3-1 loss at Eminence High School in Henry County. The forfeit dropped Shelby County to 3-7 on the season. The Rockets return to the field on Friday, Nov. 6,
No secondary in Kentucky has had an answer for Christian Academy of Louisville (KY) senior receiver Ja'Hyde Brown . The four-star Louisville football commit has diced and carved his way through every secondary the Centurions have faced in their first nine games, racking up a national-best 28 touchdowns. With a three-touchdown performance in a 49-0-win over Fern Creek (KY) to close out the year on Oct. 30, Brown now tops the Kentucky high school football record book for most touchdown receptions in a single season with 31. William Carrico of Owensboro Catholic (KY) set the previous record at 30 back in 2023. Now that the state record is set, Brown likely has his sights on the national record as the Centurions are heavy favorites to go unbeaten again and win their fifth consecutive Class 3A state championship. @JaHeisman is now your single season receiving touchdown record holder in the state of Kentucky for football after catching this one right here. He now has (31) and the playoffs to capture more. @CenturionAD @centurions_fb @KHSAA pic.twitter.com/lsMz3Kpx7W — Bosemer Media (@BosemerMedia502) October 31, 2026 The national record for touchdown receptions in a single season is 39 and held by three different players.
