NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man was fatally stabbed at a Queens bodega early Tuesday, police said as they questioned a man believed to be a worker at the store.

The victim—believed to be a customer in his 20s—was stabbed around 12:30 a.m. at the Mini Mart corner store at 64th Road and Queens Boulevard in Rego Park, according to cops.

Police officers arrived at the scene to find him unconscious with stab wounds to the chest.

A witness who waved down first responders told reporters that she "put my hand on his chest, trying to stop the bleeding." Citizen App video shows a pool of blood outside a building about a block south of the bodega.

The victim was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead. He hasn't yet been identified.

Police are investigating if a fight between him and a knife-wielding employee led to the stabbing.

The employee was in custody and being questioned at the 112th Precinct stationhouse on Tuesday. No charges had been filed against him.

The NYPD remained at the bodega after daybreak as the investigation continued.

The United Bodegas of America, which advocates for bodega owners, said it was aware of the stabbing and was withholding comment as the investigation plays out.

"This is tragic, this is what we were trying to avoid, someone losing their life," said UBA spokesman Fernando Mateo. "We ask the public and the media not to jump to conclusions until NYPD detectives have pieced the puzzle. We are hoping NYPD video tapes will tell the real story of what happened. UBA believes D.A. Melinda Katz will be fair after reviewing the evidence and seeing the video tapes. UBA will hold a press conference once we have the full story. No other comments will be made about this case until then."
