Union Pacific provides update on Pyote train cars derailment
PYOTE, Texas — A Union Pacific Railroad Personnel has just reported an update on the train cars derailment from Wednesday. On Wednesday, May 1 at about 3 p.m., there were approximately 35 train cars carrying mixed freight, including auto tracks that derailed about 1.5 miles east of Pyote, Texas.

A tornado warning has been located near Kermit and is currently moving East at 30 MPH. This tornado is currently hail up to 2 inches and damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH. Please seek shelter indoors and avoid being near windows while this storm passes.

ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - A CBS7 FIRST ALERT DAY is in effect Saturday for the potential of strong to severe storms in the afternoon and evening hours. The dryline and a cold front will spell trouble for West Texas on Saturday. Warm and humid Gulf air ahead of the front will clash with the dryline and trigger storm activity in the afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has a bull’s eye 3/5 risk of severe weather for Monahans, Odessa, Midland, Big Spring, Andrews, and Big Lake. This means we’re expecting numerous thunderstorms with the potential to become severe to develop within this area. The best chances of storm development will be in the northeastern Permian Basin. The outer ring of the severe weather threat encompasses Pecos, Ozona, Hobbs, and Abilene. Those in this region are expecting scattered severe thunderstorms. The main threats are very large to giant hail, damaging winds, and a couple of strong tornadoes. Storms should start to take shape around noon and last through the night. Severe thunderstorm activity is most likely possible between 5 PM to 10 PM CDT.
