South Fort Myers football forfeits 3 wins due to ineligible player, will appeal
The South Fort Myers High School football team filed an appeal with the Florida High School Athletic Association after the organization forced the Wolfpack to forfeit its first three wins due to an ineligible player. South head coach Matt Holderfield wrote in a text message that the school self-reported the issue after it discovered the situation prior to its Sept. 18 game at Community School of Naples. The player in question hasn’t played since then. Holderfield wrote the player’s eligibility concern dates back to the fall of 2025 when he was enrolled at another Florida school. According to Holderfield, while the team’s record dropped from 7-2 to 4-5 on MaxPreps, the FHSAA told the school the games are currently regarded as no contests for the purposes of playoff consideration. As of Oct. 25, the Wolfpack were firmly in the postseason as the No. 6 seed in Class 4A, Region 3. South Fort Myers’ appeal will be heard at an FHSAA hearing at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. The organization will release its state brackets for football on Friday, Nov. 6. The FHSAA has not yet responded to The News-Press' request for additional information about this situation. Immokalee renames football field after former state-title winning coach
In less than a decade, John Weber redefined what it meant to play for ‘Redwood’ nation. Immokalee High School honored former football coach John Weber during halftime of the Indians’ game on Friday Oct. 23 against Riverdale. Immokalee High School Principal Dan Boddison presented the plaque to Weber officially dedicating the Indians’ football field to the coach that led the program to its first state title, winning the 2004 Class 2A crown. "I’d like to thank the community of Immokalee, for giving me the opportunity to teach and coach your children. Without you, I would not be standing here and I’m grateful to call Immokalee my home,” Weber said. Weber coached the Indians from 1998-2007, with previous coaching stints at Riverdale and Cypress Late. Former coaches and players traveled from across the country to be present for Friday's ceremony. Former NFL football player and member of the 2004 state championship team Briane Rolle was one of several in attendance who spoke glowingly of the positive influence that Weber had on their life. “I always wanted to be like my big brother growing up and Weber had the pleasure of coaching my brother about seven years before I became a high

A roundup of Southwest Florida high school football games played in Week 10 on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026. Cape Coral 48, Charlotte 14 Seahawks coach Jaylen Watkins let his team know there’s a problem with the banner that displays the program’s district championships. “The font is really big because we’ve got a lot of space on there,” he said. “Our goal is to shrink down that font year by year and make (Cape Coral athletic director Tom) Kenna have to get a new one.” The Seahawks added another entry to that banner with a resounding 48-14 victory at Charlotte to claim the District 5A-11 title, its third in a row, all coming since Watkins returned to his alma mater, first as the defensive coordinator and now as its head coach. “I’m so proud of these guys,” Watkins said. “We didn’t play a perfect game, but we played a lot better than we’ve played in the first eight weeks and we’re going to need that going into the playoffs.” Cape Coral (7-2, 5-0) got a stellar game from its defense, which held the Tarpons (6-3, 3-2) to less than 140 yards of offense and forced a pair of turnovers. The defensive
