James R. “Jim” Hansen, 90, of Marco Island peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Originally from Tulsa, Jim spent many years in Beaumont, San Antonio, and Atlanta before marrying his wife of 18 years, Mary Ann, and moving to Marco Island. He was born June 5, 1932 to Fred and Mildred Hansen.

The 2023 graduating class of Marco Island Academy (MIA) started out in trailers and finished in a beautiful, state of the art campus. They also endured a pandemic, online learning, Hurricane Ian, and a full-scale construction effort that engulfed their campus. Through it all they maintained an upbeat attitude that was reflected in a graduation ceremony in front of what appeared to be a record crowd of well-wishers in the school gymnasium.

Memorial Day Event Honors Those We Lost
Veterans Community Park was once again the site of the community’s Memorial Day Ceremony after being closed due to a major reconstruction. American Legion Post 404 Commander Lee Rubenstein welcomed residents and guests to the Memorial Day Celebration by requesting attendees rise as flag bearers posted flags representing the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Space Force, and Civil Air Patrol flag.
