Inside This Zanesville Chocolate Shop, The Hand-Dipped Cordial Cherries Draw A Line At The Counter
Some places in Ohio have been scooping the same happiness since the days when nickels still meant something. In a small Zanesville storefront, the counter stays busy from breakfast right up until closing, and the take-out line rarely thins out to fewer than a few people deep. Handmade chocolates sit...

This Historic Ohio Smokehouse Serves A Hickory-Smoked Ribeye Worth The Drive
I usually need more convincing before driving across southern Ohio for dinner, but hickory smoke and a plate of beef have proven surprisingly persuasive. This historic downtown stop serves the kind of smoky, oversized meal that makes ordering something light feel like a plan you made in a previous life. Between the beef, coconut onion rings, hearty sides, and peanut butter pie, restraint does not get much help here.

East Main Street Kroger makeover set for October unveiling
(This story was updated because an earlier version included an inaccuracy) LANCASTER − The $1.8 million renovation of the Kroger store at 1141 E. Main St. is set for an October completion. The work started in May and will include an upgraded culinary kiosk, an expanded Murray’s cheese section, an expanded floral department, an expanded pick-up area, along with an updated seafood area. The store remains open during the renovation work. The company said it will release more details closer to the October completion date. "Typically, you update the decor in the building," Mark Bruce, head of communications and public affairs for the Kroger Columbus division, previously said. "Kind of the looks, paint and things like that. New tables, new cases, the items that the food is stored in and/or set on in the store will usually be replaced. Typically, you could see improvements to restrooms, improvements to the pickup area and various things like that." But the Lancaster store renovation is not the only local project Kroger is working on. Construction continues on a new 118,000 square-foot store on Diley Road in Canal Winchester near the Pickerington border. The $30 million Canal Winchester store will be a Kroger Marketplace

Meet the baker behind the new Messy Apron Bakehouse
CHILLICOTHE— A struggle to perfect chocolate chip cookies eventually led Jilian Davis to launch The Messy Apron Bakehouse, a home-based baking business she started in July 2026. Davis, a Zane Trace graduate and stay-at-home mom, said her chocolate chip cookies never came out right despite countless attempts. After hours of research and experimentation, she finally found recipes that worked and tasted delicious. A chocolate lover herself, Davis tried to make cookies before, but her desire to bake was really kicked off after she had her first son, who turned out to be a picky eater. In an effort to make sure he still got all the nutrition he needed, Davis started experimenting with foods he already liked, like peanut butter crackers, by adding in nutrients and new flavors. "I was trying to find ways to get nutrition into him with him still liking the things that he likes," said Davis of her experimentation. With all this experimentation, Davis had a lot of leftovers, so she started sharing what she made with friends and family. After the birth of her second son, Davis suffered from postpartum depression, something the CDC states that around one in eight women report symptoms of after
