Spring is in full swing with the baseball/softball fields rocking with Little League and Jr. Cowboy baseball. Spring soccer practices have also begun. Please drive with caution when visiting parks that have athletic fields. There will be lots of little ones running around. Registration is now open for the district’s fall leagues of soccer, flag football and tackle football.

The Prineville Pool is tentatively scheduled to open on Thursday, June 13. Please check our Facebook page or website for updates as we get the pool ready for opening. Registrations for swimming lessons will be available online starting Monday, May 13.

Swim lessons and fall sports programming are extremely popular in this community, so set a reminder to register early to make sure you can secure a spot. For your convenience, registration for all programming is available online at ccprd.org/. If you do not have an account, you will be prompted to create one.

The 26th annual Fishing Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 18. This year, the Fishing Derby will be held at Ochoco Lake campground and day use area. The cost is $10 per person, and you can register online or in person on the day of the event. The event starts at 8 a.m., but if you get up early, Kiwanis Club of Prineville will be serving a pancake breakfast starting at 7 a.m.

The Crook County Parks and Recreation Foundation is still looking for sponsors for our annual 4th of July Celebration. If you are interested, please contact Andrea Weaver at andrea@ccprd.org or 541-447-1209.

A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at the Juniper Art Guild, 1635 SE Mountain View Drive, Prineville, and by going to ccprd.org/board-meetings/. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025 as approved by the Crook County Parks and Recreation District Budget Committee at their April 24, 2024 meeting.

The Crook County Parks and Recreation District has partnered with earthwin for a river clean-up day. On May 31, come out and support Crook Couty youth and help restore river health by reclaiming 26 acres of Crooked River frontage. You can use the QR code accompanying this article to sign up.

We hope to see you actively enjoying all the wonderful parks and recreation services the community has to offer!
