Police say a man shot and killed himself Sunday afternoon after he threatened three other people at a Powder Springs home.

Around 2:15 p.m. on May 5, Cobb County Police officers responded to calls of a person shot at 3680 Luther Hall Road, where they found 55-year-old Darris Stewart dead from a gunshot wound on the home’s front porch.

Deborah Stewart, Robert Stewart and Hannah Stewart had left the home to seek safety after Darris Stewart threatened them, said Sgt. Eric Smith, Cobb Police spokesperson.

Investigators’ preliminary inquiry indicates Robert Stewart discharged a firearm at Darris in an act of self-defense and defense of Deborah and Hannah Stewart, Smith added.

Evidence indicated that Darris Stewart’s last act was a self-inflicted gunshot that is believed to have caused his death.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing, Smith said.
