(KMAland) -- Coon Rapids-Bayard and Underwood are both preseason No. 1 in their respective class rankings from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. The Crusaders are No. 1 in 1A while the Eagles are on top of Class 2A to start the season, which can officially begin Monday. Kuemper Catholic (No. 8 in 2A), Bishop Heelan Catholic (No. 3 in 3A), Lewis Central (No. 10 in 3A) and Sioux City North (No. 10 in 4A) are also ranked.
Boyer Valley's O'Day finds perfect fit with Doane volleyball
(Dunlap) -- Boyer Valley multi-sport standout Jessica O’Day is on to the next level and will play volleyball at Doane University in Crete, Nebraska. “I was kind of looking at smaller colleges around the area,” O’Day told KMA Sports. “I just kind of visited Doane because my two cousins go (there). (Avoca, IA) – Baseball season is finally here and the AHSTW Vikings are bringing back multiple familiar faces from the 2023 season. The Vikings have been placed into Class 1A which was great news for Head Coach Trey Brix who was already excited to get into baseball action. While it has been a challenge with spring sports still going on, the Vikings are ready to hit the diamond and play some good old-fashioned baseball.
Minden, Iowa's request for FEMA funding following tornadoes approved
MINDEN, Iowa — The mayor of Minden, where two tornadoes have hit in less than two weeks, is asking for urgent help from the federal government. Damage assessments conducted by Pottawattamie County officials revealed more than $12 million worth of property damage in Minden alone. Around 90% of the town's business district and 40% of residential homes were completely destroyed after an EF-3 tornado hit on Friday, April 26.

MINDEN, Iowa — Atornado hit just outside the town of Minden, Iowa, just days after a deadly tornado devastated the area. The storm hit the area after 9 p.m. The Pottawattamie County emergency manager reports damage to residences, in addition to snapped trees and downed power lines. No injuries have been confirmed from the storm.
