Grant High School Constitution Team takes first place at National Finals

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Grant High School’s Constitution team was crowned the champions at the We The People National Finals in Washington D.C.

In a letter to the school and community, Grant High School principal James McGee congratulated the team and thanked the coaches.

“Over the last three days, our team has engaged in rigorous debates and demonstrated an unparalleled understanding of constitutional law, which led them to this incredible achievement,” McGee’s letter said. “I am incredibly proud of the effort our students have put forth, showcasing not only their knowledge but also the values we hold dear at Grant High School.”

Grant wasn’t alone however, Lincoln High School also ranked highly, placing no. 6 in the country.

Local politicians, including Senator Ron Wyden and Representative Suzanne Bonamici, took to social media to congratulate the teams.

“Huge congrats to Grant High School’s Constitution team for bringing the national title back home to Portland & @PPSConnect. And kudos to Lincoln High School as well for its top-10 finish,” Wyden said on X.

Bonamici focused on the team’s hard work and also thanked the teachers and volunteer coaches who helped them along the way.

“Congratulations to Portland’s Grant High School, number 1 in the national We the People competition, and to Portland’s Lincoln High School for an impressive 6th place,” Bonamici said on X. “These teams work hard to master their knowledge of civics and the Constitution. Thanks also to the teachers and volunteer coaches who support the students. Well done, Grant and Lincoln!”
