Phillips Meats honored after providing nearly 89,000 pounds to foodbanks

Zanesville food providers were among the southern and southeastern Ohio honorees recognized for helping connect locally-produced food with families facing hunger. Phillips Meats and South Zanesville Food Pantry received Food Champion Awards during the Ohio Association of Foodbanks ' Oct. 13 regional farm tour, according to a community announcement. Phillips Meats has provided nearly 89,000 pounds of primarily beef and pork products to Ohio foodbanks since 2022. The Zanesville stop was part of the association's last of four regional farm tours recognizing farmers, food producers and community organizations. The tours highlighted partnerships between Ohio agriculture and the state's charitable food network. Programs including the Ohio Food Program and Ohio Agricultural Clearance Program help foodbanks purchase and distribute food through partnerships that support local farmers. The programs also reduce food waste. State legislators and representatives from state and local agencies also participated in the tour to recognize honorees and highlight continued support for Ohio's farm-to-foodbank partnerships, according to the announcement. Other southern Ohio honorees The tour also recognized organizations in Washington Court House and Proctorville. In Washington Court House, honorees included Saddleberk Farms, Cockerill Berkshire Farms and Paint Valley Ministries Pantry. Saddleberk and its farm partners have supplied more than 115,000

CAMBRIDGE − Customers who haven't visited Brickhouse Market & Deli since its April opening might not recognize it. New seating, vintage décor, local artisan goods and an expanded food menu are reshaping the downtown business into a gathering place built on equal parts nostalgia and community. Co-owners Meliah and Katelynn Moore wanted to mix the two concepts into the market's recent rebranding. "What I wanted to do with the concept of the inside of the building is dive into the fact that it's an old building," Meliah explained on the previously established former deli. "I set up this vintage little lounge. (The) TV is from 1977, and it still works. We thrifted a lot of unique furniture from Amish country and all over the state, pretty much to get this old vibe that you're stepping back into. "When you walk into the building, if you've ever been in here before, it looks completely different because we had a counter where (the couch is) right now. We had no booths here. We had no picnic tables here," she continued. "People walk in and they've been here and they don't know if they're in the same place because it looks completely different."

Chillicothe Farmers Market officially moves to Yoctangee Park

CHILLICOTHE— If you are looking for a place to get the freshest fruits and vegetables in Ross County, look no further than the Chillicothe Farmers Market, which will soon celebrate its move to a new location in Yoctangee Park. The market has operated in several different locations in recent years, but vendors could often be found in the parking lot of the service building. That area offered no shade or protection from the elements. This new location inside the multi-purpose building in Yoctangee Park provides shelter year-round for vendors and customers, keeping them out of the snow and rain. The bay windows on each side of the building will allow for airflow and easy access to and from the park. Earlier this summer, when vendors were asked their thoughts on the move , many said they were looking forward to having a permanent home that can be used year-round. Now that the building is actually built, vendors can actually see their future home and better visualize what markets will be like in the park and near Chillicothe's downtown.
