The Georgia Southern softball team used a season high 15 runs en route to a 15-3 win over College of Charleston at Patriots Point Park on Wednesday afternoon. The Portal men's varsity soccer team had a long bus ride up to Statenville to take on the Echols County Wildcats in the Sweet Sixteen of the GHSA State Playoffs on Wednesday afternoon. The Portal Panthers hosted the Georgia Military College Prep School in the second round of the GHSA State Playoffs on Tuesday evening. The Lady Panthers shut out the Bulldogs 6-0 and advance to the Elite 8. Portal held a 3-0 lead going into the second half. Portal Men's Golf team places 2nd in area tournament, headed to state
The Portal Boy's Golf Team competed in the area tournament on April 22nd in Tennille, GA. The Panthers placed 2nd in the tournament and earned a spot in the GHSA State meet in Hawkinsville on May 20-21. The Panthers were led by senior Corey Stuckey. Stuckey finished 6th individually in the tournament. The Portal men's golf team has been excellent for the past two seasons. GS Baseball falls to Mercer on Wednesday night
The Georgia Southern baseball team fell in the second game of a two-game midweek series to the Mercer Bears, 18-3, on Wednesday night in Macon, Ga. The Bears (21-18) accumulated a 16-0 lead before the Eagles (20-21) responded in the top of the fifth inning. In that inning, JD Kaiser got the Eagles on the board with a RBI-single to right field, bringing home Sam Blancato. Corey Dowdell followed that up with a RBI-double that took a high bounce over the third baseman, bringing home Kaiser and Jarrett Brown to put three runs up for the Eagles. The Bears took two runs back in the home half of the fifth inning to run the score up to 18-3, the eventual final. Fred Wilson took his first win of the season with 4.2 innings of work, while Ty FIsher fell to 5-5 on the year. Blancato led the offense with a 2-for-3 night, scoring a run as well. Kaiser, Dowdell, Daniel Haab, Cade Parker, and Sylas Boris also registered hits on the night. The Georgia Southern men's golf team fired a final-round 285 to charge up the leaderboard on the final day of the Sun Belt Championship, but fell just short of making the top four to advance to match play at Annandale Golf Club.
