Lubbock and the South Plains are no stranger to construction, maintenance and all sorts of road work. Here are the latest projects local and state highway crews are working around Lubbock and the area. Street closure on portion of Boston Avenue to start March 26 Starting Thursday, March 26, City of Lubbock Water Utilities will close Boston Avenue, between 19 th and 20 th Streets, to repair a water line break. The road should be re-opened by the end of the day Friday, weather permitting. The City encourages drivers to use caution while driving in work zones and to seek alternate routes. Loop 289 bridge work in Lubbock Bridge maintenance and repairs on the Loop 289 bridges, at US 62/82 (Idalou Road), are scheduled to begin on Friday, March 27. The work is part of a maintenance project to replace bridge joints and bridge decks, make concrete repairs and upgrade the guardrail fencing on bridge structures along Loop 289 and the I-27 corridor. After the Friday morning rush hour, crews will begin placing concrete barrier along both the eastbound and westbound main lanes reducing the lanes of traffic to one in each direction.
