Woman killed in Hockley County after Thursday morning crash
One person died early Thursday morning in Hockley County after their vehicle veered off the road. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 38-year-old Linda Garza of Whiteface was driving a 2000 Chevrolet C-10 south on Santa Fe Road when both the right tires went off the edge of the road.
Women arrested, accused of smuggling drugs in Hockley County Jail

Littlefield Chamber of Commerce hosts annual banquet
The Littlefield Chamber of Commerce held their annual banquet on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. The event was held at the M.A.C. Center of the First Baptist Church in Littlefield. The meal was catered by Locos Restaurant of Littlefield who served a buffet selection of Mexican cuisine including enchiladas, beef and chicken fajitas with all the trimmings, as well as their delicious sopapillas. The meal was graciously sponsored by Continental Dairy Facilities of Littlefield.

South Plains Underground Water Conservation District 2024 calendar winners announced
Picturing water conservation can be a tricky task, but not for Terry County fourth and fifth graders who recently competed in the South Plains Underground Water Conservation District’s (SPUWCD) calendar artwork contest. Approximately 450 students from Brownfield Oak Grove Elementary, Meadow Burleson Elementary, and Wellman-Union Elementary heard a presentation on the value of water in our lives, tips for conserving water indoors and outdoors, and learned other facts about local water resources like the Ogallala Aquifer. All fourth and fifth-grade students were then challenged to design and illustrate their interpretation of water-saving methods. Competition was fierce with only 13 winners selected for the 2024 South Plains UWCD calendar.
Shallowater ISD names new assistant principal, volleyball coach
SHALLOWATER, Texas — Shallowater Independent School District announced the hiring of a new Assistant Principal and Volleyball Head Coach on Tuesday. Shallowater ISD said it hired Kelsey Morris as the Assistant Principal at Shallowater Intermediate School. Morris holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and a master’s degree in educational leadership, according to a press release.

Severe Thunderstorm, Flash Flood Warnings continue across the South Plains
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The National Weather Service has issued multiple Severe Thunderstorm Warnings across the area this evening, with storms dumping heavy rain. Starting with Briscoe County, as of 7:06 p.m. a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect for southern Briscoe County, making its way into northeastern Floyd County. The storm is moving southeast at 10 mph. Golf ball size hail and 60 mph winds have been reported. Northeastern Floyd County is also under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning associated with this storm.

Local SPC students make honors list
South Plains College in Levelland recognized students who were named to the President’s List and Dean’s List for the Spring 2023 semester. Hannah Ames and Alexandra Mora, both of Dimmitt, were among more than 300 students on the President’s list. In order to qualify, the students had to earn a GPA of 4.0 and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours.
Summer Feeding Program will offer free meals for children in Lubbock, Wolfforth
Students younger than 18 years old can get free meals this summer across Lubbock and Wolfforth, thanks to a partnership with Frenship ISD and Aramark. The Tiger Bites Summer Feeding program, in its sixth year, aims to help end child hunger while school is out. This year, the program will go from June 5 until July 28, Monday through Friday, excluding the week of July 3-7.
