Mules take home gold at Denver City Mustang Relays, Lady Mules runners-up
The Muleshoe boys track team claimed first place at the Denver City Mustang Relays March 3 while the women were named runners up. The boys team compiled 156 points throughout the meet with Denver City 24 points behind them at 134. The Lady Mules earned 127 points while Denver City won the girls side with 156 total points.

Bulldog strongmen finish the season strong at Region I meet
SUNDOWN —Coahoma’s John Reagan and Tres Vasquez placed fourth in their individual weight classes at the Region I, Division 3 powerlifting meet on Saturday. Reagan, a senior at Coahoma High School, capped off his high school career with a three-lift total of 1,120 pounds, which consisted of 400 on squat, 320 on bench, 400 on deadlift, in the SHW division. In the 123s, Vasquez, a sophomore, hoisted 895 total pounds of iron, which included 330 on squat, 205 on bench, and 360 on deadlift.
Texas Horse Positive for EIA
The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) has confirmed that one horse at a barn in Terry County tested positive for equine infectious anemia (EIA) on December 29. The horse has been euthanized, and the premises is under official quarantine. The quarantine will not be released until TAHC’s requirements are met. TAHC and staff are working closely with the owners and local veterinarians to monitor potentially exposed horses and implement biosecurity measures.

Wellman-Union ISD hires Athletic Director
Wellman-Union ISD is excited to announce its new Athletic Director, Coach Josh Bailey. Coach Bailey is the current Wellman-Union Girls Head Basketball Coach who began his tenure at WUISD in August 2022. (related article) According to WUISD, Coach Bailey shares WUISD’s Athletics vision for the future. Currently, WUISD is in search of a new head football coach and when asked if Coach Bailey would be taking over the football program, he said, “I will not. We are hoping after spring break we will have more information on football.” Coach Bailey led the Lady Cats to another state basketball playoff berth where they lost to #13 Whiteface who eventually fell to the Class 1A State Champions Nazareth.

Terry County first responders and law enforcement were busy Saturday
Saturday March 4, 2023 was a busy day for Terry County first responders and law enforcement with 6 fires and two accidents. Most fires were grass fires or “controlled burns” that got out of hand. One fire was called out on US 380 East for a house on fire. According to the fire department the cause of the house catching fire is still under investigation, however the front yard portion was completely burned and the fire reached the front porch of the house caused it to catch fire.
