A Lot to Do: Busy Saturday in Plainfield on June 1

PLAINFIELD, NJ — Saturday, June 1 will be a busy day for events in Plainfield, as the city is host to a handful of gatherings whose times overlap. Those interested in attending multiple events will have to plan their day accordingly.
The day will start off with a march and rally against gun violence sponsored by the City of Plainfield, Moms Demand Action, and the Plainfield Public Schools, among others. Marchers will leave the Plainfield Performing Arts Center at 9:30am before a 9:45 rally at Plainfield City Hall. Plainfield Councilor Terri Briggs-Jones and Union County Commissioner Rebecca Williams are expected to be in attendance, as well as other elected officials and leaders.
From 11am until 3pm, the Plainfield Public Schools will be hosting Mental Health Matters and Cardinal Day inside the Plainfield High School gymnasium. PHS is located at 950 Park Avenue.
At noon, Rhythm and Blues by the Brook will kick off at Cedarbrook Park. The 5th Dimension will headline the annual concert series, which started in the early 2000s. Other performers will include The Company Men, Trusol, Freakwincey, and DJ Bookeem. There will be an obstacle course for kids, a health and wellness fair, a car show, and a host of vendors. Rhythm and Blues by the Brook will end at 6pm.
From 2-7pm, Plainfield will host what its organizers are calling the city's first Pride Party , which will take place at the duCret School of Art at 1030 Central Avenue. TAPinto Plainfield is cosponsoring this free event, which will include performances by drag artists, music by DJ Miss Alicia, and a selection of food trucks offering delicious bites to satisfy all sorts of cravings. Drink specials will be offered as well as sweet treats from Urban Cone.
But the party won't end at 7pm in Plainfield. Downtown's Mamajuana's Cafe will host musician Yaisel Ym before closing at 4am. Tickets are still available for $35 through this Eventbrite link .
