Cinco de Mayo tribute to an Auburn legend
Old Town Auburn was booming with the music of Tamburazo Los Juarez as Cinco de Mayo was celebrated Sunday. An enthusiastic crowd danced, enjoyed good food, and applauded and cheered charros on horseback and guest of honor Conaciano Uribe. A wrangler and horse trainer from Zacoalco, Jalisco, Mexico, who used to work at Disneyland shoeing horses, Uribe, 82, came to Auburn in 1976 and stayed. “This man is a legend,” said Uribe’s daughter, Nora Hampshire, as Tamburazo Los Juarez performed a song written for her father. “He’s been here forever.”
