Philips Respironics is settling a massive lawsuit over faulty CPAP machines sold in the U.S.

It's a $1.1 billion deal. Millions of DreamStation sleep apnea machines were recalled after foam insulation degraded, sending toxic fumes and particles into users' mouths and lungs.

Hundreds of deaths were linked to the defect.

The Post-Gazette reports the settlement was unveiled Monday in federal court in Pittsburgh.

The agreement also includes $25 million for long-term medical monitoring.

Respironics has three plants in the Pittsburgh area and has agreed to halt sales of its CPAP devices until it meets a number of safety requirements.
