PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are searching for the driver of a minivan they say hit three people in the Hunting Park section of the city Monday night. One of those victims is in critical condition.

Police Capt. Robert Heinzeroth explained the vehicle was caught on city surveillance cameras speeding.

“At approximately 9:11 p.m. at the intersection of B and Venango streets, a dark in color minivan — we don’t know the make or model — was traveling at a high rate of speed going eastbound, swerved to the left to avoid a stopped car when it struck three pedestrians,” said Heinzeroth.

Seconds later, surveillance video shows the van fleeing the scene as it continued on Venango Street. “To strike one person in a hit-and-run is unconscionable, but to strike three people and keep going is exceptionally callous,” he said.

First responders transported the pedestrians — two men, ages 32 and 59, and a 59-year-old woman — to a hospital. The two men suffered wrist injuries and are listed as stable. The woman sustained head trauma and internal injuries, and remains in critical condition.

Police say the van has a unique red and white logo on either side of the van doors. They ask that anyone with information call 911 or contact the Crash Investigation Division at (215) 685-3180.
