Philly news anchors insult their city to deter Knicks fans from overrunning 76ers’ arena

If you’re a New York Knicks making the trek to Philadelphia for Game 6 of their NBA Playoff series with the 76ers, perhaps these local news anchors will make you reconsider.

Knicks fans invaded Philly for Games 3 and 4 of this series, making a mockery of a once proud 76ers fanbase. Desperate to make sure it doesn’t happen again, Sixers’ ownership, alongside Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, purchased 2,000 tickets in an attempt to block raucous Knicks fans from once again overrunning Wells Fargo Center.

But just in case Rubin’s plan fails to keep Knicks fans out of the building, Fox 29’s Good Day Philadelphia co-hosts Mike Jerrick and Alex Holley have the 76ers covered.

“I think we should bury the hatchet and welcome Knicks fans to the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection,” Jerrick said Thursday morning. “So, we’re gonna give you some insider tips on how to visit Philly.”

Those tips featured taking SEPTA, the city’s mass transit system, which Jerrick touted as being a “very friendly, clean, efficient subway service.” And for those Knicks fans who prefer to drive, Holley suggested taking Roosevelt Boulevard to the arena, citing its eight lanes.

Need a snack before the game? Jerrick recommended bringing a large duffel bag to the arena filled with food such as a rotisserie chicken. Need a drink before the game? Holley offered up the tip of grabbing water directly out of the Schuylkill River.

But the most important tip of all came when Jerrick implored Knicks fans to arrive decked out in blue and orange, “Because Philly fans, we love it when you show your pride and your spirit. In fact, go up and say ‘hi’ to Philadelphians…They may even offer you a sandwich…you ever heard of the knuckle sandwich?”

Just in case you haven’t caught on to this heckuva comedy routine, these are not real tips meant to help Knicks fans. Roasting your own city by running down a list of things wrong with Philadelphia as a way of attempting to roast Knicks fans was quite the strategy. Although, as Keyshawn Johnson already proved this week, fans will do anything in the name of getting an edge for their favorite team.
