DeBary native Jalyx Hunt made history for two schools late on Day 2 during the 2024 NFL draft.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Hunt with the 94th overall pick, continuing their tradition of stockpiling on pass rushers. Hunt becomes the first University High grad and Houston Christian product to enter the NFL.

A wide receiver during his days at University, Hunt was recruited to play safety at Cornell before eventually transferring to Houston Christian. The 6-foot-4, 252-pounder blossomed when switching positions to outside linebacker, earning Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2023 after recording nine tackles for loss, 6½ sacks, two pass breakups and an interception that he returned for a touchdown.

Hunt becomes the 30th Volusia-Flagler high school football athlete to hear his name called in the NFL draft. Last year, the Houston Texans grabbed Mainland grad Tank Dell in the third round.

Notable Volusia-Flagler draft picks include former first-rounders Paxton Lynch (Trinity Christian), Leonard Williams (Mainland), Sebastian Janikowski (Seabreeze), Tra Thomas (DeLand) and Wes Chandler (New Smyrna Beach).

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
