Murrieta police department investigating bank robbery spree
MURRIETA, California — Authorities are investigating a series of bank robberies that occurred on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, in Murrieta and Temecula. At approximately 12:19 p.m., the Murrieta Police Department Communications Center received a call about an armed robbery at a bank on the 40000 block of California Oaks Road. A bank employee reported that an Asian male suspect, wearing a black baseball cap and dark clothing, passed a note demanding money while displaying a firearm in his waistband. The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Cause of fire that nearly reached homes in Temecula being investigated
The cause of a fire that torched just over 14 acres in Temecula on Friday is being investigated after the flames came dangerously close to homes in the Morgan Hill neighborhood. The blaze was reported a little before 3 p.m. near Morgan Hill Drive and Coppola Street, located along the Temecula Creek, according to Riverside County Fire Department officials. Crews arrived at the scene to find flames moving northeast at a moderate rate as they burned through medium brush in the area. On top of ground crews, three Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters assisted in preventing the flames from jumping Highway 79. By 7 p.m., firefighters reported that the fire had been contained after it burnt 14.4 acres. Now, investigators are working to determine what caused the fire. No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.

A 62-year-old man was arrested after robbing three banks within 90 minutes in Murrieta and Temecula on Thursday.Deputies said Sonny Tho Leu robbed the first bank in Temecula around 12 p.m. where he was reportedly wearing a black baseball cap, dark clothing and he was carrying an orange utility bag, according to the Murrieta Police Department.The second robbery happened around 12:20 p.m. at a bank in the 40000 block of California Oaks Road.
