Parsons Police Corporal receives prestigious silver award

PARSONS, Kan. (KOAM) -- The Parsons Police Department celebrates one of its own after receiving the prestigious Silver Award by the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police (KACP).

According to the Parsons Police Department, KACP honored Corporal Rory Johnson with the award following his life-saving actions in April 2023.

The Parsons Police Department says in April 2023, Corporal Johnson responded to a distress call from former Parsons Officer Luke Schibi at the Parsonian Apartments.

The department says Corporal Johnson arrived on scene and immediately sprung into action. Recognizing the urgent need for first aid, he applied pressure to a severe abdominal wound while assisting Officer Schibi, who attended to a leg injury.

According to Parsons PD, Corporal Johnson's dedication to rendering aid continued until Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene.

"In moments of crisis, true heroes emerge, and Corporal Rory Johnson exemplifies the finest qualities of our profession," remarked Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks. "His unwavering courage and decisive actions epitomize the dedication to public service that defines our department."
Patrol Lieutenant Kyle Wiford added, "Corporal Johnson's quick thinking and selfless response reflect the highest standards of law enforcement. His dedication to duty serves as an example of excellence to us all."

The Parsons PD says Corporal Johnson joined the police department in 2021 and quickly ascended to the rank of Corporal in 2023. Corporal Johnson has also served as a Taser and Pepper Spray instructor.
