Controversial Lansing Avenue reconstruction shot down by Jackson City Council
JACKSON, MI - A contentious redesign for one of Jackson’s busiest traffic corridors will not be paid for through special assessments, city officials decided Tuesday. A proposed $2.3-million reconstruction project centered around the Lansing Avenue Corridor was voted down 4-3 at the Jackson City Council’s May 14 meeting.
Drunk man arrested after crashing car trying to flee domestic dispute
JACKSON, MI – A Jackson man was arrested Friday after trying to flee a domestic dispute while drunk and crashing not far from the home. Police were called at about 2 a.m. May 10 to a home in the 500 block of South Gorham Street for a report of a domestic dispute in progress, according to the Jackson Police Department.
Suspected bank robber arraigned after U.S. Marshals arrest him hiding in Illinois
JACKSON, MI – Federal agents located in Illinois a man suspected of robbing a bank in Jackson and brought him back to the city to face charges. Jarred Lamoyne Mihaila was arraigned Monday, May 13, on one count of bank robbery in connection with a hold-up March 6 at a branch of America One Credit Union at 718 E. Michigan Ave., court records show.

JACKSON, MI – Cascades Humane Society is without an executive director, leading to one of its biggest annual fundraisers being postponed. Former Executive Director Heather Leszczynski left April 19, and the search for a new executive director to lead the Jackson nonprofit has begun, Board Chair Kerry Klee-Tiesman wrote in an email.
