New Jackson Homeless Center Delayed, Not Derailed, Say Project Leaders
The City of Jackson's plan to sell the T.A. Wilson Academy building to Residents in Action by the end of May for conversion to a homeless resource center has been delayed. Residents in Action says it is close to getting the one-half million dollar Michigan Labor and Economic Opportunity grant awarded last year to close the purchase.

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Festivities are taking place in 2024 to help people celebrate Juneteenth in Jackson County. June 19, known as Juneteenth, commemorates the day in 1865 when Union Army Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger told Texas slaves of their emancipation, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. It became a federal holiday in 2021.
High school students in Jackson have a chance to attend all-girls first responder camp
JACKSON, Mich. (WILX)—For the first time, female high school students will have the chance to attend an all-girls first responder camp in Jackson. The three-day event will allow girls to get hands-on experience in a possible career with the fire department, police, and EMTs. This is the first time the city of Jackson will host an all-female camp. After being asked if the city has some sort of camp for girls, the fire department decided to take action and create one.
