Council approves contracts relating to Water System Improvement Project
On Monday, July 15, the Albion City Council approved several items in relation to the Water System Improvement Project. The first item was a resolution to authorize bonds for Michigan Transportation Funds. Mickey Bittner of Wightman & Associates gave a brief explanation about this resolution and the other items that required council approval to move forward with the project.
Sister City relationship more than words, both communities support Albion teen Ann Wade’s medical emergency abroad
What would have been a wonderful, fun overseas learning experience for one Albion teenager turned out to be much more for her and her family. Ann Wade is well known in town for all her public activities, such as her singing and musical talents, winning Walk the Beat, being a student coordinator for her high school band, working at her mother’s store, Yellowbird Chocolate Shop, and actively participating in the French Sister City relationship. Her latter experience has rallied her family around her and the community to support them through a GoFundMe page, Support Ann Wade’s Emergency Expenses. and a fundraiser at Galazio in Albion on August 1.

Former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords to visit Michigan as part of Harris campaign
(CBS DETROIT) — Former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords will visit Michigan this weekend as part of Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign trail.Giffords' husband, Sen. Mark Kelly, is one of the top contenders as Harris' running mate in the 2024 presidential election. Giffords was also a victim of a shooting during a campaign event with constituents in 2011.Officials said Giffords is scheduled to be in Rochester Hills on Sunday and Grand Rapids on Monday for the "Weekend of Action" events, which include canvass launches, phone banks, and text banks.Harris launched her presidential campaign after President Biden announced last weekend that he was dropping out of the race against former President Donald Trump. Shortly after withdrawing, Biden endorsed Harris for the Democratic nomination. Several other Democratic lawmakers, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, have since endorsed Harris.Additionally, Michigan Democratic delegates voted on Tuesday to endorse Harris ahead of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month.

Local hospital helping patients impacted by Rite Aid pharmacy closures
OWOSSO, Mich. (WILX) - Rite Aid recently announced that an additional seven locations in Mid-Michigan are scheduled to close. Rite Aid has closed more than 500 stores, according to court documents. Since declaring bankruptcy last year, Rite Aid has closed 165 stores here in Michigan.
