3-year-old boy injured after shooting himself, Detroit police say
(CBS DETROIT) - Police say a 3-year-old boy is in critical condition after he shot himself with his mother's gun on Friday in Detroit.Authorities responded to the area of Elmo Street and Saint Patrick Avenue. Police Chief James White said a preliminary investigation revealed that the boy's mother came home from work and set her gun down on the dresser. Woman hospitalized after manhole explosion in Detroit
(CBS DETROIT) - A 58-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after a manhole explosion on Friday in Detroit.A city spokesperson said the explosion happened at Congress Street and Woodward Avenue. Officials say a woman was nearby when the explosion occurred and she was transported to a hospital. They say that she was not hit by the manhole cover but she is in serious condition.Officials say there was no structural damage to the roadway. City officials say the cause was from natural gas; however, DTE says it is still working to determine the cause of the explosion. DTE officials also confirmed that the manhole did not belong to the company and they were just helping the Detroit Fire Department with the investigation."At DTE Gas, the safety of our customers and communities is our top priority. We are currently working with the Detroit Fire Department to investigate the cause of an incident in downtown Detroit in which a cover raised from a manhole not belonging to DTE. Service remains on for DTE customers in the area while the investigation continues," a DTE spokesperson said in a statement.

(CBS DETROIT) - A Michigan man has been sentenced to 15 to 20 years in prison for the theft and sale of account information tied to Meijer mPerks accounts. Nicholas Mui, 22, of Grand Haven, pleaded guilty in July to one count of conducting a criminal enterprise and forfeited his computer tower and about $611,000 in cash and frozen cryptocurrency.mPerks is a loyalty program at the Meijer grocery store chain. Boar's Head faces at least seven lawsuits following the August recall of millions of pounds of its deli meat after the food company's products were linked to a deadly listeria outbreak. Suspect robs Detroit-area bank wearing "old man" mask, police say
(CBS DETROIT) - A suspect robbed a Metro Detroit bank wearing an "old man" mask Friday morning, police said. At 10:38 a.m., dispatch received a 911 call about an armed robbery at the Fifth Third Bank at 4747 Haggerty Road in West Bloomfield.The suspect walked into the bank wearing "an 'old man' Halloween mask with gray hair, blue latex gloves, a light gray hooded sweatshirt, khaki pants, white sneakers with neon stripes on them, and carrying a black umbrella with yellow smiley face polka," according to the police department. Police say the suspect, described as an unknown male who appears to be about 6 feet tall, was also allegedly seen with a pistol during the robbery. He left the bank with a "large sum" of money in an unknown direction. Police say it is unknown how he left the area.No one was injured. The investigation is ongoing. "While the request was made close to the deadline for defendant to give notice of candidates to local election officials, it was not made so late that laches should apply," the opinion said. Michigan man accused of shooting, killing neighbor's dog
(CBS DETROIT) - A Macomb County man is accused of killing his neighbor's dog "Buddy" because the dog got too close to his property line.Andrae Maurice Jones, 43, of Clinton Township, was charged with third-degree killing/torturing an animal, felony firearm, careless discharge of a firearm and malicious destruction of property over $200 less than $1,000, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. He faces up to four years in prison for the killing/torturing animal charge. The incident happened on Aug. 15, and Jones was given a $20,000 bond during his arraignment on Tuesday. If he is released, he cannot have any contact with the dog's owner or have any firearms or ammunition.
