Elderly West Virginia man dies after driving into flood waters

WOOD COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has died after driving his vehicle into flood waters.

According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, April 14, 2024, police responded to 1100 Nicolette Road in Wood County about a vehicle that had driven into the flood waters.

Upon arrival, the vehicle had submerged below the water line, and responding units were advised a male subject was inside the vehicle.

Police spoke with a witness, who advised he observed what he described as a GMC Sonoma drive past the high-water sign. The witness advised he observed one male within the vehicle.

The witness advised he stopped mowing his yard to try and tell the man not to drive into the water but the vehicle continued.

Police were advised by Eastwood fire units on the scene that they had already requested the Little Hocking Fire and Rescue Dive Team as well as Pifer’s Towing.

Both arrived on the scene and a blue GMC Sonoma was recovered with one deceased male identified as Donald William Muray of Parkersburg, age 75, inside the truck.

According to police, at this time there are no contributing circumstances that caused the incident.
