Flag retirement in Laporte May 8 at Vets Memorial
The In Country veterans group and the American Legion and Auxiliary of Laporte are sponsoring a flag retirement at the Laporte Veteran Memorial downtown May 8 at 10 a.m. Fifth-grade students at Laporte School are invited. In the past each student deposited a flag into the flames. Jim Smith spoke about respect for the flag. In the past it was quite impressive; the students were very interested and learned about respect for the flag. If it is raining the event will be scheduled for the next day.
Oratory Contest winner speaks at Legion
Minnesota Legion Oratorical Contest winner Elijah Cox was the speaker at the Walker Legion Membership dinner. He delivered his winning contest presentation to the Legion members who were very impressed with this young man’s delivery. Cox, a sophomore, will be competing May 17-19 in Hillsdale, Mich., at Hillsdale College in the Legion National Oratorical Contest.
