Dickerman chosen as JWCC student trustee as Student Government Association elects officers
QUNCY — The Student Government Association (SGA) of John Wood Community College recently elected officers for the 2024-25 academic year. Kannon Dickerman, a graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School, was elected by JWCC’s student body as the college’s new student trustee. Dickerman is pursuing a degree in accounting and is the recipient of JWCC’s Presidential Scholarship.
Switch from curbside recycling to drop-off sites leads to 56 percent increase in material collected
QUINCY — The annual report from the City of Quincy’s Recycling Division showed the city collected 2.833 million pounds of material from May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024. Quincy Mayor Mike Troup happily announced a 56 percent increase in recyclable materials collected during Monday night’s Quincy City Council meeting.
Elderly driver injured in Highway 61 accident south of La Grange
An accident occurred on Highway 61, four miles south of La Grange, at approximately 9:40 a.m. on May 7, 2024, involving a 2017 GMC 1500 and a 2023 Kenworth tractor-trailer. The GMC, driven by 77-year-old Craig A. Starkey of Quincy, Illinois, was reportedly westbound when it entered the path of the northbound Kenworth, driven by 26-year-old Dakota L. Downson of Auburn, Illinois. The collision resulted in total damage to both vehicles, towed from the scene by Robert’s Garage.

Screening of ‘Scary Movie’ on Saturday at State Theater to include Q&A session with actors
QUINCY — Fall-Com will hold a Halloween celebrity screening and autograph signing of “Scary Movie” on Saturday, May 18, at State Street Theater. The event begins with actors Dan Sheridan and John Abrahams of “Scary Movie” meeting with fans from 1 to 5 p.m. in the District Art Gallery in the Quincy Town Center. The screening will be held at State Street Theater with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the film at 7:30 p.m.
