White House Condemns Rep Mike Collins Sharing Ole Miss Video of Black Protester Being Taunted: ‘Beneath Any Person’

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre accused Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) of doing something “beneath any person” by sharing a video of University of Mississippi students counterprotesting a pro-Palestinian activist, with some making monkey gestures at the Black woman.

“It’s beneath anyone to be sharing that kind of material,” Jean-Pierre said at a Tuesday press conference.

Protests have broken out at college campuses across the country over Israel’s strikes on Gaza. Police action has been taken in New York and elsewhere to break up encampments where students are calling for their schools to completely divest from Israel.

Protests at Ole Miss included activists pushing back against pro-Palestinian demonstrators by singing “The Star Spangled Banner,” but others could be seen taunting a Black woman, with some yelling, “lock her up,” and making racist gestures.

“Ole Miss taking care of business,” Collins wrote on X (formerly Twitter) when sharing the video.

Jean-Pierre said on Tuesday the actions displayed in the video were “beneath any American” and blatantly “racist.” She added that sharing such content is below a congressional leader like Collins.

“It’s beneath any person to be sharing that video,” she said, calling it “saddening” and “insulting.”

She continued, “we are so much better than that.”

Collins released a statement on Monday following blowback to praising the Ole Miss video.

In the statement, he said the video showed “potentially inappropriate behavior that none of us should seek to glorify.” He claimed the “focal point” for him was not the questionable behavior, but that “regular students are standing up against the pro-Hamas, anti-American, Antifa anarchists.”
