CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — First graders at Osceola Mills Elementary School launched into learning on Tuesday.

It’s all part of the group’s project for Remake Learning Days . It’s a virtual challenge that includes nearly 10,000 elementary students across Pennsylvania.

Local students got the opportunity to participate in the crafty catapult challenge. After they were finished with their projects they then got to put them to the test.

So, what did they use to make the catapults?

“Popsicle sticks, spoons, rubber bands, which we didn’t use those, and tape,” Colby Zeigler, a 1st grader said.

“The important with this and the key push with STEM and education right now is teaching kids to problem solve and work in collaboration to solve real world problems,” Terry Parks, 1st grade teacher at Osceola Mills Elementary said.

Parks added that the project was about collaboration as much as it was about getting students interested in STEM.
