One of the last remaining drive-in movie theaters in northwest Ohio will reopen on May 1 once again as the Sundance Drive-In for its 75th year of operation.

Located at 4500 Navarre Ave. in Oregon, the theater operated as the Parkside Drive-In last year by the nonprofit management group Save Our Screens.

Earlier this month, however, Parkside posted a statement on their website saying they would not reopen the Parkside for the 2024 season, citing “many challenges including an inherited and growing list of repairs,” and unspecified “costly ongoing litigation with the previous operator we had naively called our friend.”

According to a Facebook post that appeared Saturday on the Sundance Drive-In page which had been mostly dormant for the past two years, Todd Williams, owner of the Memory Lane Drive-In in Monroe, has now acquired the Sundance. Previous Sundance theater operators Keven and Sue Christy will help manage the theater with Williams.

“We are very excited to see the Sundance make a comeback and are eager to help our friend Todd take the drive-in into the future. And a real bonus will be reconnecting with our past customers,” said Keven Christy in a statement on a Facebook post.
