US weather forecast: Texas and Oklahoma flood watch as 224 people rescued from dangerous waters

More than 20 million people have been alerted to a flood watch in Texas , Oklahoma and Arkansas today.

According to Texas Judge Lina Hidalgo, around 224 people and 153 pets have been rescued from the flooding so far. Thankfully, no deaths or injures have been reported. On Saturday, she said: "Unfortunately, what we saw was basically what we predicted, which was a lot of flooding." As well as that, in some areas, flooding has been seen "all the way up to the power lines."

Furthermore, the east fork of the San Jacinto River crested at 77.8 feet above sea level. On the west fork, the water is still rising, according to Judge Hidalgo. However, she warned that it was too late for people to evacuate to safety without calling the emergency services. She said: "We're not out of the woods yet and a level of uncertainty remains."

Several rivers in the Houston area are at major flood stage, with the Trinity River, located northeast of Houston, likely swelling to its highest level on record today. It's forecast to go higher than it was during Hurricane Harvey in 2017, and perhaps even break its all-time record from 1945.

So far, the heaviest of the rain had eased in southeast Texas on Saturday morning, with the region expected to enjoy a break from the rain for the day. However, on Sunday, heavy rain is due to move back in and shower the area with an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain. Strong showers are likely across much of Oklahoma, with cities like Oklahoma City and Tulsa facing 1 to 3 inches as well.

On Saturday, severe thunderstorms are forecast for parts of western Texas on Saturday and the rest of Sunday. In the evening, strong storms could bring the potential for damaging wind, huge hail and scattered tornadoes to cities like Midland and San Angelo, Texas.

As well as that, the severe forecast is due to move into Houston on Sunday, bringing potentially flooding rain with it. There is also a chance of more, severe thunderstorms on Monday in the central plains from Dallas to Sioux Falls.

Scorching, warm weather is due across parts of the county by the middle of the week - which would be the first heat-wave of the year. Towards the south, temperatures are set to spike into the 90s and 100s.

It comes as hundreds were rescued from high waters around Houston, Texas as neighborhoods continue to be swamped by floodwater . Rescue crews have so far removed 400 people from their flooded homes with some sitting on rooftops to avoid the rising waters which has engulfed roads in murky water.

It is believed other residents are preparing to evacuate their properties. A region stretching from Houston to rural East Texas has suffered waist-high floodwaters leaving many people stranded.
