    Oklahoma law enforcement memorial adds names of ten fallen officers

    (KOAM) - Recently the names of ten law enforcement officers and one canine partner who died in the line of duty in Oklahoma were engraved on the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memorial and will be dedicated on the memorial during the 56th Annual Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memorial Service.

    The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday May 10, 2024, on the west grounds of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety Headquarters, located at 3600 M. L. King Avenue in Oklahoma City.

    Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Scott Rowland will deliver the keynote address at the event.

    The Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memorial, dedicated on May 15, 1969, stands as the oldest memorial honoring fallen officers in the United States. The public is encouraged to attend the memorial service to pay their respects.

    The fallen officers and their canine partner being honored are as follows:

    • Marion A. Sweeten , Deputy U.S. Marshal, shot and killed on May 3, 1886, during a domestic altercation.

    • Samuel S. Reed , Deputy Sheriff of Marshall County, shot and killed on September 22, 1911, while ejecting a man from a circus for not having a ticket.

    • James H. Thompson , Officer, Eldorado Police Department, shot and killed on May 20, 1921, while on duty.

    • J.D. Lovette , Deputy Sheriff, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, suffered a fatal heart attack on September 6, 1959, while conducting an investigation.

    • Raymond D. Brown II , Officer, Comanche Nation Police Department, died on August 8, 20121, from complications of COVID-19 contracted on duty.

    • Kenneth W. Fowler , Correctional Officer, Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office, died on February 19, 2023, from injuries sustained in a fall on an icy parking lot.

    • Richard S. Parker , Captain, McAlester Police Department, died on March 16, 2023, from a heart attack.

    • Joseph S. Barlow , Officer, McAlester Police Department, died on March 20, 2023, from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident while on duty.

    • Jeremy D. McCain , Deputy Sheriff, Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, died on March 20, 2023, from injuries sustained in an on-duty vehicle accident.

    • John R. Randolph III , Captain, Ringling Police Department, died on September 25, 2023, from injuries sustained in a fall.

    • Canine Partner Helo , Owasso Police Department, died on March 21, 2023, from a massive hemorrhage after collapsing during a training exercise.
