Lady Vols take NCAA softball tourney opener
Karlyn Pickens struck out 12 batters, including all three in the first inning, to lead Tennessee to a 3-0 win over Dayton in its NCAA softball tourney opener Friday. Tennessee, 41-10, will next face Virginia, 33-18, which defeated Miami (Ohio), 7-0 in the first game of the Knoxville Regional at Lee Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday with the winner advancing to Sunday.
Dayton Police warns of thefts during social media sales transactions
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- Police are promoting the city's Safe Exchange Zones in light of recent thefts during transactions that are initiated on social media. Dayton Police Lt. Mark Ponichtera said some of the fraudulent or otherwise criminal behaviro recently has revolved around ATV sales, where the criminal will ask to test drive the vehicle and then simply not return or pay. Some of the transactions have also been violent or involved fake money, also called movie money.

CLYDE, Ohio — Hitting a walk-off home run to win a game is what players dream of. For Perrysburg's Jessica Miller, it became reality Friday. With Springfield surging to tie the game late, Miller took advantage of a pitch over the plate, slamming a solo shot over the left-field fence, lifting second-seeded Perrysburg to a 9-8 Division I district championship over the third-seeded Blue Devils at Joe Wilson Field at Clyde High School. "I was really hoping to hit a line drive just to get on base," Miller said. "A walk is a walk. I was going to be on base and I knew at some point, I was going to be that winning run."
