The pleasures of a leisurely lunch
Lunch has often been billed as an insider’s way to enjoy a chef’s offerings without the more complex and costly challenges of the dinner menu. That’s not strictly true these days, since most restaurants run the same menu and prices all day long. But still, lunch offers the pleasures of less crowded dining rooms, more relaxed staff and a chance for more personal attention.

A Prominent Lafayette Shopping Center Just Got a Big Facelift
LAFAYETTE, CA — A familiar row of downtown Lafayette storefronts has a decidedly different look. The shopping center at Mt. Oakland Airport Janitors Out-Earned the Mayor — Then Came the Favoritism Probe
Some janitors at Oakland International Airport pulled in $200,000 or more in a single year, payroll records show, including eight who out-earned Oakland's own mayor in 2023. That eyebrow-raising pay came under scrutiny after accusations that managers were steering the most lucrative overtime shifts to favored workers, and that some employees were paying kickbacks to get them. An outside investigation has now delivered its verdict: favoritism, yes. Kickbacks, no.

Review: “Revenge of the Rebobs!” in Napa
An old Napa Valley legend morphs into an outrageous musical comedy at the Lucky Penny Community Arts Center in Napa through November 8. The decades-old story purports that the hills surrounding the valley are home to hybrid critters—part ape, part bat, and with the aid of a mad scientist in the wake of World War II, part robot. As in tales of Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster, many people claim to have had encounters with the Rebobs, but nobody has ever produced incontrovertible proof.
