A.O.C. brings Rib Fest back Aug. 18
Due to popular demand, Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne’s popular restaurant in Brentwood will bring their Rib Fest to their Westside restaurant on Sunday, Aug. 18. A.O.C., located in the heart of Brentwood, will be suited up for the rib rodeo and Goin’s family-style feast of slow-cooked ribs, hot wings and sides which has become a Goin/Styne summer tradition since 2000. A week of preparation goes into smoking the beef brisket, pork and lamb ribs, spreading the lure of wood smoke throughout both neighborhoods and attracting a growing swell of Rib Fest groupies for this BBQ celebration. Guests are invited to wear their Stetsons, chaps and boots, and join the party. The menu features Suzanne’s Saint Louis-style pork ribs; braised Westholme beef brisket; spiced lamb spareribs and too-hot-to-handle chicken wings. Mouth-watering sides include coleslaw and baked beans; long-cooked collard greens; buttered corn-on-the-cob; tomato and watermelon salad; and grilled cornbread and Wonder Bread. Finish with a summery dessert of warm peach cobbler with strawberries and buttermilk ice cream. Don’t miss some foot-stomping cowboy cocktails to enhance the menu. TTB Establishes Contra Costa AVA, Expands AVAs
The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) officially approved the establishment of the Contra Costa Viticultural Area, along with modifications to the San Francisco Bay and Central Coast viticultural areas in March 2024, with the ruling becoming effective on April 15. The Contra Costa Winegrowers Association said, “This landmark decision marks a significant milestone for the wine industry and the entire agricultural community in the region and underscores the unique characteristics of Contra Costa County’s viticultural landscape. Establishing the Contra Costa Viticultural Area and modifying the San Francisco Bay and Central Coast Viticultural Areas not only celebrates the rich viticultural heritage of the region but also provides winemakers and grape growers with increased recognition and marketing opportunities.” Contra Costa’s AVA acreage is 167,146.
Santa Rosa-based Vintage Wine Estates Files for Bankruptcy, Announces Mass Layoffs Impacting 377 Employees Across the Bay Area
Vintage Wine Estates, a Santa Rosa-based wine conglomerate, declared bankruptcy and braced for sweeping layoffs. The company, once the 15th largest wine producer in the nation, announced on Wednesday its decision to file for bankruptcy coupled with a "mass layoff" of its entire workforce spanning across ten facilities throughout the Bay Area, as reported by SF Chronicle. Vintage Wine Estates' filing indicated the company’s plan to lay off 377 employees from locations in four counties.

San Jose homicide suspect who fled to El Salvador back in Bay Area after Texas arrest
The suspect in a 2022 fatal shooting in San Jose who fled to El Salvador was returned to the Bay Area after his arrest in Texas in May, police said Friday.The shooting happened on the afternoon of November 18, 2022 on the 600 block of River Oaks Parkway in North San Jose. San Jose police said officers found a man who had been shot and he was treated at the scene before being taken to a hospital where he later died of his injuries.During the investigation, detectives identified 30-year-old Carlos Hernandez Monroy as the suspect. Police said it was also determined that Hernandez Monroy had fled to El Salvador after the shooting.On May 27, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested Hernandez Monroy in McAllen, Texas. He was brought back to San Jose on Monday and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder.Police said the motive and circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting were still under investigation.
