NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (KCAU) — UPDATE: A house fire in North Sioux City has killed a family’s pet.

Crews responded to a house on fire at 183 North Canterbury Circle around 2:50 p.m. and were able to extinguish it.

North Sioux City Fire Chief Bill Pappas said no one was home at the time but that a dog did die.

Heat was also a factor as one of the responding fire fighters did suffer heat stroke but he will be okay, officials said.

Officials are unsure if the house is salvageable because of smoke and fire damage to the rear. Officials state they will stay on the scene to make sure nothing smolders up and will start an investigation Tuesday.
