Convicted killer's compassionate release reopens old wounds

On Monday, an Allegheny County judge granted compassionate release to an inmate, however, what does that do for the families harmed years ago?

After being incarcerated for nearly 49 years, Ezra Bozeman was granted compassionate release. He was rushed to an area hospital and is now on life support.

Bozeman is a quadriplegic and isn’t expected to live more than another year

Bozeman was convicted of second-degree murder in October of 1975 for Killing Morris Weitz during a robbery at Highland Cleaners.

Bozeman's release just brings that moment immediately flooding back.

A caller named Sheryl, a friend of the family called into Colin Dunlap’s show on KDKA Radio Monday, saying.

“The phone call that she got when it happened, was traumatizing,” said Sheryl. “She was 16 and her brother was 15, I was a year or two older and she called me screaming and said ‘someone just called my house and said they wanted to talk to the dead man’s family.’”

She says she’s in shock to hear of the release of the man who took her best friend's father all those years ago.
