    5 store clerks charged for selling alcohol to minors

    BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — Deputies in Berkeley County targeted businesses in a random alcohol enforcement operation that led to five store clerks being charged over the weekend.

    The operation took place on Saturday and Sunday. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Alcohol Enforcement Team sent in underage confidential informants (UCI) to purchase alcohol at 54 businesses in the county.

    Danielle D. Backmon 24, was charged for sale of beer or wine to a minor under 21.

    • Backmon was a clerk at Parker Gas Station at 1105 N. Highway 52 in Moncks Corner at the time of the operation.

    Latroya Karizma Laverne McCray, 25, for charged with the sale of beer or wine to a minor under 21.

    • McCray was a clerk at Pineville Food Mart at 1501 Colonel Maham Drive in Pineville at the time of the operation. .

    Anari Brianna White, 19, was charged for the sale of beer or wine to a minor under 21.

    • White was a clerk at Sunoco Carnes at 1255 St. James Avenue in Summerville at the time of the operation.

    Judith Davis Nettles was charged for the sale of beer or wine to a minor under 21.

    • Nettles was a clerk at Exxon Gas Station at 101 N. Highway 52 in Moncks Corner at the time of the operation.

    Larry Mckelvy, 54, was charged for the sale of beer or wine to a minor under 21.

    • Mckelvy was a clerk at Dollar General at 380 N. Highway 52 in Moncks Corner at the time of the operation.

    It is unclear if the people charged still work at these businesses.

    “Citizens that would like to provide an anonymous tip about the underage sale of alcohol is encouraged to contact the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. You may also submit a complaint to SLED Alcohol Enforcement at 803-896-5591,” BCSO said.
