(WWJ) Remember those air quality alerts from last summer?

Well, they're back... beginning this weekend in Metro Detroit.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has declared an Air Quality Advisory for Saturday, May 18, for elevated levels of ozone in parts of Southeast Michigan.

The alert includes Macomb, Oakland and Wayne, Livingston, Monroe, Washtenaw and St. Clair counties.

According to EGLE, pollutants in these areas expected to be in the 'Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups' (USG, Orange AQI) range, with conditions right for the worst of it during the mid-afternoon to early evening hours.

    So, what should you do?

It is recommended that, when possible, to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with respiratory diseases such as asthma when these alerts are in effect.

People and businesses are also urged to avoid activities which lead to ozone formation. This include putting gas in your car, mowing the lawn, and using charcoal lighter fluid. Positive activities include driving less, telecommuting, walking or bike riding, delaying or combining errands, using water-based paints.

Last summer, Canadian wildfires led to a number of hazy days with poor air quality here in Metro Detroit and across much of the state.

Experts say, unfortunately, we should brace for some more of the same this year.

Looking at the rest of the forecast for this weekend in Metro Detroit, AccuWeather says Saturday will be warmer, with times of sun a clouds, and a high of around 79 degrees. There's a chance of showers, but Meteorologist Joe Lundberg says most areas will be rain-free.

On Sunday, Lundberg says it'll be mostly sunny in Metro Detroit, and just a little warmer, with a high of around 83 degrees.
