5 things to do in Westmoreland County, May 17-19

For those who want to get out and about this weekend here are some fun activities to make it memorable in Westmoreland County.
Sunday Fun Day
A free day of fun and cultural learning wil take place Sunday at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art.
Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the museum will offer activities, performances and cuisine.
Programs include an origami folding activity, haku- and lei-making demonstrations, a xiaobo waist drum dance group performance.
Sunday Fun Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum, at 221 N. Main St., Greensburg. Register at thewestmoreland.org.
Greensburg Vintage Market
On Sunday, shop vintage goods at St. Clair Park, 132 N. Maple Ave., Greensburg, with the Greensburg Vintage Market.
Available items will include decor, clothing, collectibles, vintage books and records and other wares. There will be antiquing to explore, as well. Handmade pieces, food and floral vendors also will be available.
Greensburg Vintage Markets will occur on select Sundays throughout the season into November, at the park and elsewhere.

Play at Civic Theatre
The Greensburg Civic Theatre’s production of Tony Award-winning play “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” will run Friday through Sunday at Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road, Greensburg.
Performances will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Presale tickets are $16, $14 for seniors and $11 for students, $2 more each at the door.
The play “tells the story of 15-year-old Christopher (who) has an extraordinary brain.” Faced with the mysterious death of his neighbor’s dog, Christopher is determined to find answers — and “upturns his world” in the process.

Ninth Life Rescue fundraiser
This Sunday, play bingo to benefit animals at Grandview Volunteer Fire Department, 1655 Ridge Road, Jeannette.
A fundraiser for Ninth Life Rescue Center, tickets for the bingo event are $30, $25 in advance. There will also be a special drawing, and attendees can enter by bringing a donation of clumping cat litter or Purina brand cat food.
The event will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and the kitchen will open at 3 p.m.
Also enjoy a 50-50 drawing, basket raffles and plenty of bingo games.

School of Rock
In the mood for a musical? Head to the Geyer Performing Arts Center for “School of Rock,” a musical penned by Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on the 2003 film starring Jack Black.
Shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the theater at 111 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale.
The musical follows a rudderless rock musician who pretends to be a substitute teacher and forms a band from a fifth grade class of prep school students.
