JOHNSTON, Iowa (WHO) — The Fire Service Training Bureau is part of the Iowa Department of Public Safety and its job is to certify firefighters in the state as well as provide training for fire departments. One way that the FSTB provides training is by using mobile trailers.

Jess Dunn, a Bureau Chief of the State Fire Marshal Division of the FSTB, said that most fire departments can’t afford the mobile training trailers.

“100% important that we have these resources available to departments around Iowa. Again, as I talked about the funding for these departments, they just don’t have the money to do these props. A lot of these props can cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and it’s just not economically feasible for them. So for us to have these resources available to them is just tremendous for them,” Dunn said.

The FSTB has mobile training trailers for many different training scenarios which means it can teach different skills.
